Lights Lighter, Darks Darker: Why I Started Good Girl Drip
Share
The story behind the name, and what "good" actually means here.
My dear cousin Randal Roberts - who is a prolific artist in Denver and you should definitely follow and buy his art - says:
"Art is as simple as making the lights lighter and the darks darker." And that saying really stuck with me in a big way. I don't know if he knows this… but it applies everywhere else.
Life is an experience of opposites.
So I created good girl drip because I know exactly what the darkness looks and feels like and I decided I need to start painting with some highlights.
So here we are. I was a bad girl… I did bad things. What does that mean?
It doesn't mean I was a bad person… it means I did things I knew wouldn't serve me. It means that little devil and angel inside of me wrestled and that devil won. That devil is strong af.
I know we can all be there. I know not all of us want to do the right thing all the time. Some of us like the drama cus that's where we're comfortable. Well couldn't control our home lives, we wanted to control whatever we could. So we created the chaos that we (and only we) could control.
Well it wasn't working. I actually had a convo with my therapist one day about boundaries (spoiler alert: I needed them) and it dawned on me…….. it was fucking TIME for me to be a good girl.
Not good in the sense of godly, although that's part of it. Good in the sense that I would finally LISTEN… to myself. To others that truly care about me. I needed to LISTEN and then act.
Good girl is my way of checking myself and keeping myself accountable to act in accordance with my highest good. In any moment, you have a choice: you can either be bad… or you can be good. What does good mean for you? I want to have more conversations about this - comment below and let me know if you have any insights about this
